Odile Chalmin was born in central France on October 28, 1958. Always attracted to Italy, she often stays there. For 25 years you have learned bookbinding from a Marseillaise master. This is how she approached the world of art. Since 2011, her artistic impulse has opened up towards painting. This new artistic activity revealed itself to her as evidence, a freer means of expression.
Today she plays with the Materials that allow her to structure the paintings (leather, paper, vegetables), with the paints (acrylic, tempera, pastel, watercolor, ink) to give life to the inner images that inhabit her.
Her work as a painter since 2011 began with marouflage, using pastel and watercolor, then she dared to introduce acrylic. Tempera is now the material that best corresponds to his way of expressing her. Her technique is sensual because she does not hesitate to leave brushes and knives and to work directly with her hands: while gently… pushing harder where it was needed… stretching the oil paint or concentrating it. We know, the creative is intimate. It is unique and personal. Different for each. But for everyone it is a vital energy, a real nourishment to face existence and life. Odile’s way of creation is therefore a journey from the point of view of techniques but also in the mastery of colors and shapes. Always on the verge of the abstract and the figurative!
The source of the images she gives us is always the same: mental images that come to her during difficult sleep phases. It is a liberation when placed on the canvas. This form of expression, which can resemble raw art, has not chosen it: it has imposed itself upon itself.
